Gateway Acupuncture & Alchemy

Gateway Acupuncture & Alchemy is a Hillcrest, San Diego practice built around classical Chinese medicine, a complete, channel-based system that treats the root of a problem rather than the symptom sitting on top of it. The practice sees one patient at a time in a quiet, curated space, with unhurried first visits and a single all-inclusive rate for each session.

How they work

Diego Garcia, L.Ac., practices Classical Chinese Medicine, the older, channel-based form of the tradition. Where most acupuncture works within the primary channels, Diego trained directly under Ann Cecil-Sterman in the complete system, drawing on all sixty-one classical channels and the complement systems where long-standing and complex patterns often live. The lineage runs through Master Jeffrey Yuen, and Diego has practiced since 2018 after earlier study in human nutrition and ten years as a strength coach.

Every visit starts with a full intake and classical pulse diagnosis to find the pattern beneath the complaint, then treats one channel at a time so each point reinforces a single, clear instruction. A session can use fine, single-use needles or needle-free acupressure, and cupping, moxa, gua sha, Tui Na bodywork and infrared are all included when the treatment calls for them, with no add-on charges. Care is offered in person or virtually. Alongside acupuncture, Diego offers Daoist Alchemy, a separate self-development practice drawn from the same lineage, for those drawn to that deeper work.

The space

The clinic sits in the heart of Hillcrest at 3636 5th Avenue, with parking available and the entrance on 5th Avenue. Sessions run Monday through Thursday and Friday, with weekend appointments by special request, and booking is done online. Gateway is in-network with Cigna and provides superbills for other insurers, and cash, credit, HSA and FSA are all accepted.
